The New York Times According to an editor’s note, earlier this month they removed former Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro from their list of the “39-ish Most Sylish People of 2026.”
The note below the listThe July 7 article said: “This article has been updated to remove a post about Nicolás Maduro. Read our Styles story about how a picture of him in a tracksuit became a meme.”
The outlet’s style section reported on how President Donald Trump’s Truth Social post by a photo of Maduro in a gray tracksuit went viral after his capture and quickly became a meme.
Page Six was first to report the move on Friday. The list was published by the Times on July 7.

The Times style piece About Maduro in January it said: “Despite the seriousness and shock of seeing a foreign leader in these circumstances, some people on the Internet have bypassed politics and seized on the image itself to talk about the clothing.”
The Times did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
The US military launched attacks against Venezuela and captured Maduro on January 3 – he survived the operation largely unscathed as it crippled Venezuela’s defense systems and possibly conducted cyber operations against Caracas.
Maduro is awaiting trial Federal drug trafficking and weapons allegations.
In total, more than 150 aircraft – including US bombers and fighter jets – were involved in the operation and, according to Trump, successfully completed a “large-scale attack” against Venezuela. Additionally, there were power outages in Caracas, Venezuela, early on January 3 – an indication of a possible cyber operation.

The Times list included Stephen Colbertwhose “Late Show” on CBS ended in May, as well as several political figures.
RFK Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani’s wifeRama Duwaji, were also there.
The list also pointed to Second Lady Usha VanceWhite House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Katie Miller, podcast host and wife of Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser in the Trump White House.

The Times listed Miller, Vance and Leavitt in a category titled “Pregnant Women in the Trump Sphere.”
“It’s a powerful image for an administration that has made clear its position that women should have more children. These three women – Usha Vance, Katie Miller and Karoline Leavitt – paint a portrait of idealized femininity, the counterpart to the masculine bravado of the men in the White House,” the Times wrote.

The channel’s roster also included a number of actors, podcast hosts, foreign executives, athletes and New York Knicks fans.
