According to official data, Russia carried out a wave of ballistic missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens.
Four people were killed in the northeastern city of Kharkiv and an elderly woman died in the capital Kiev. There were two more deaths in Zaporizhia in the south and one in Sumy in the northeast.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack on Kiev was “one of the most massive ballistic attacks” since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in 2022.
Late Sunday, the Ukrainian navy said five people were killed when a Turkish civilian cargo ship carrying grain was hit by Russian missiles in the Black Sea. Russia has not commented.
Meanwhile, Ukraine said it hit three Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea. and three oil depots in the southern Stavropol region. Zelensky said these were targets that “finance Russian aggression.”
Several areas in the Kyiv region were hit overnight. The Ukrainian military said air defenses in the capital shot down 18 of 41 missiles. The systems also intercepted 108 drones.
Oleh Syniehubov, Kharkiv regional director, said a postal terminal in a suburb of the city was attacked, killing four men aged between 24 and 62. Several of the injured were in serious condition.
In a Telegram message, Zelensky said Russia had used “about 1,450 attack drones, more than 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles of various types against Ukraine” last week.
Zelensky also posted on Telegram about Ukrainian attacks.
“Units of the SBU (Security Service) simultaneously attacked three oil depots in the Stavropol region, while units of our armed forces attacked another facility in the fuel sector in the same region,” he said.
“Precise hits were recorded on three Russian Shadow Fleet tankers in the Black Sea. I thank each of our units for helping to spread the awareness in Russia that this war must end.”
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which transports Kazakhstan’s Caspian oil to Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, said its terminal was hit.
It said two tankers were damaged, leading to the cessation of oil loading. There were no injuries or oil spills.
The governor of Stavropol said a drone strike caused a fire in an industrial park.
The latest attacks on Kiev involved a number of Russian weapons systems, including Iskander and hypersonic Zircon missiles, as well as 125 drones, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
On Sunday, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said both residential and non-residential buildings had been damaged, including a supermarket and a dormitory.
Firefighters battled the fires in two warehouses. According to the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry, a logistics center in the Bucha district near Kiev was hit, injuring two people.
The nighttime attacks came after Ukraine sent drones there destroy two warehouses of Russia’s largest online retailerWildberries, killed eight people and caused major fires.
