The Pasadena Police Department in California released shocking video footage of an incident on September 7, 2025, in which an officer appeared to accidentally shoot another officer.

Chief Gene Harris described the incident as a “suspicious accidental officer-involved shooting” that “resulted from unsafe and out-of-policy officer-involved shooting with loaded firearms.”

He noted that the injured officer had recovered.

In the video footage, an officer draws his weapon, points it at a vehicle that was approaching him, and then puts the weapon back in his holster. But then the footage suddenly shows a cloud of smoke, a hole appears in the vehicle’s windshield, and you can see how the police officer, who had just put his gun back in the holster, reacts after apparently being shot.

“As seen in the video, one officer drove toward the other officers who were standing next to another Police vehicle. One of the standing officers inappropriately and quickly removed his weapon from his holster and pointed it at the officer sitting in the approaching unit. “After a few seconds, he put the gun back in the holster,” the chief explained.

The officer in the vehicle then pulled his gun from the driver’s seat and pointed it at the colleague, the chief explained.

“During this interaction, the driving officer’s firearm struck the windshield of his police vehicle and then the left shoulder of the officer standing outside,” Harris noted.

“As more evidence is collected and reviewed, our understanding of the incident may evolve,” he said. “While the criminal investigations and violence review are still pending, the official investigation has been completed and disciplinary action has been taken.”
