I concluded that my stamina had returned enough for me to try out my group ride on Tuesday. We took one of my favorite drives – “around the reservoirs” and back and forth on Casa Loma Road. I rode the recumbent bike because it was easier on my back and less likely to make my stenosis worse. If necessary, I used the electric assistance to keep pace. and had enough battery to get me through the ride. Very pleasant ride on a beautiful late fall day.
After the ride was over, I fell violently off the bike. As I swung my leg over it, it caught on the frame tube and had to momentarily balance on one leg. Before I could break free, I fell backwards, hitting my back (near the sacrum) and head on the pavement. Luckily my helmet saved me. So now I have a new helmet (it’s not a good idea to reuse it after a big impact). Also pain in the back that should go away in a day or two. Time to work more on balance!
