Cryptic message from Devin Haney: Ducked in 2025? Who is he talking about?

Devin Haney posted a cryptic message on social media this evening saying he expects to be faded out in 2025.

He doesn’t say who would elude him, but he may be talking about Ryan Garcia because his promoter Oscar De La Hoya said there would be no match with Devin in his first fight after his one-year suspension expired in April.

Devin and his father Bill Haney want to avenge their loss from last April with a rematch against Kingry. It’s also one of the highest-paying fights for Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) in 2025. However, if he loses the rematch with Garcia, his career is over. He would regret taking on this fight for the rest of his life.

Dev needs to beat Garcia to show fans that his 12-round majority decision loss to Garcia on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn was just a failure. Haney was knocked down three times in that fight and another three times that the referee didn’t count.

Andrade criticizes Haney

“At first I thought about Devin Haney for a long time because I thought he would develop into a Sugar Ray Leonard-style guy, but things just haven’t been going that way lately,” Demetrius Andrade said MillCity boxes about how he initially believed Devin Haney would be the guy to beat Gervonta Davis.

“I don’t know if he (Haney) got too complacent or not. He is still young because they earn good money and then stop working. I’m not saying he doesn’t work hard. I thought he was the guy who would beat Tank in the future. Honestly, you beat a lot of them.

“I think he has the skills to beat anyone except that Ryan Garcia thing. Despite what little substance he consumed, he showed no dominance skills over Ryan, and Ryan looked like shit at times. He was tired,” Andrade said.

If Andrade truly believed Haney was developing into the next Sugar Ray Leonard, that meant he wasn’t there when he fought. Haney doesn’t fight like Leonard does. Even an older version of Sugar Ray from 1997 surpassed Devin in terms of talent.

“There were a lot of rounds in this fight where Devin should have pushed and pushed, but he didn’t,” Andrade said. “He just let it go and kept throwing Caleb Plant stabs at them. It didn’t do anything and Ryan just went boop-boop. “It was a tough time,” Andrade said of Haney’s loss to Garcia.

Haney tried to neutralize Ryan’s left hook by over-clinching, but he kept getting pinned while trying to grab him. He got away with this style of fighting in his two fights against George Kambosos Jr. and in his clash with Vasily Lomachenkp. This tactic didn’t work against Garcia.
