Cliftonville says they are “devastated” by the sudden death of defense attorney Michael Newberry.
The 27-year-old’s death was announced by the Northern Irish club in a social media post this morning.

It said: “Cliftonville FC is devastated to learn of the sudden death of Michael Newberry.
“Our condolences go out to Michael’s family and friends, as well as the many teammates he played with throughout his career, and the fans who will be devastated and saddened by this heartbreaking news.”
Newcastle-born Newberry began his career with his hometown club, then moved to Icelandic club Vikingur Olafsvik and then tried his luck in Northern Ireland with Linfield.
He won two Premiership titles before moving across Belfast to Cliftonville in the summer. Newberry played in the Boxing Day game against Crusaders.
His former club Linfield also acknowledged this with a post on X saying: “Linfield FC is devastated to learn of the sudden death of our former player Michael Newberry.”
“Linfield have agreed with NIFL that today’s Premiership game against Larne should be postponed.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Michael’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

Roy McGivern, chairman of Linfield, added: “I am stunned to hear the news of Michael’s sudden death.
“He was such a nice, friendly guy and an extremely popular member of our team during his time at Linfield. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”
