Former Everton captain Don Hutchison has hit back at Neal Maupay after the striker recently posted a dig at the Toffees on social media.
Hutchison branded Maupay, who is on loan at Marseille from Everton, a “failure” after the striker took aim at the Merseyside club following their 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Maupay, who is known for his trolling and previously posted a Shawshank Redemption meme after leaving Goodison Park in the summer, wrote: “Whenever I have a bad day I just look at the Everton score and smile. “

Although the 28-year-old is still technically owned by the Blues, Marseille are obliged to make the deal permanent in the summer, meaning he has played his last game for Everton.
Hutchison, who played for the Toffees in the Premier League between 1998 and 2000, hit back: “Obviously Everton are living rent free in his head.
“Everton fans, take heart in knowing that every night he thinks about how much he failed and how he couldn’t bear to play for such a great club.”
Hutchison wasn’t the only one to publicly criticize Maupay for his post.

Maupay moved from Brighton to Everton in 2022 for an undisclosed fee. During his time at Goodison Park he scored one goal in 29 top-flight appearances.
He played regularly under Roberto de Zerbi at Marseille this season, making 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
De Zerbi’s side are currently second in Ligue 1, ten points behind leaders PSG.
