A 23-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges in North Carolina after carrying out a horrific attack just days before Christmas. Jami Raiziah Griffin has been in police custody since Friday, December 27th. Police say Griffin doused a woman with gasoline on Dec. 16 and set her on fire. The victim, Ashanti DowneyShe suffered second and third degree burns on the right side of her body, from CBS17.

The incident occurred in Harnett County in Sanford, North Carolina, near Barbecue Church Road. She walked down the street to a Dollar General. Sheriff’s deputies initially believed that three people unknown to Ashanti, including Jami, stopped a car they were traveling in, doused them with a flammable liquid and set them on fire with a cigarette.
However, investigators have since discovered that Ashanti and Jami Raiziah Griffin were living together when he committed the attack. In addition, according to CBS17The police no longer believe that anyone other than Griffin was involved.
