Three-quarters of all ports in Peru were closed due to the powerful waves lashing the coast.
For safety reasons, the beaches are closed and fishing boats are not allowed to go out to sea.
According to the Peruvian Navy’s Chief of Hydrography and Navigation, Enrique Varea, the waves are caused by sustained winds off the coast of the United States.
