Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo prostate removal surgery on Sunday after being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, his office said.
The 75-year-old leader underwent a test at Hadassah Hospital on Wednesday where he was diagnosed with “a urinary tract infection secondary to benign prostate enlargement,” a statement from the prime minister’s office said.
“Therefore, the Prime Minister will undergo prostate removal surgery tomorrow,” it said.
Netanyahu underwent a hernia operation in March and in July last year Doctors implanted a pacemaker after a medical scare.

Sunday’s proceedings come a few hours after the Israeli military’s announcement raided one of the last functioning hospitals in northern Gaza and arrested its director.
Israel is waging war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip for nearly 15 months following the October 7, 2023 attacks in southern Israel, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed and approximately 250 others were kidnapped. About 100 Israelis remain trapped in Gaza and about a third are presumed dead.
According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in Gaza, the war has killed more than 45,400 Palestinians and injured more than 108,000 others. The count does not differentiate between civilians and combatants.
Earlier this month, Netanyahu took a stand in his Long-term trial for alleged corruption. This week the Israeli Attorney General ordered police to investigate Netanyahu’s wife on suspicion of harassing political opponents and a witness in the corruption trial.
