Italian journalist Cecilia Sala was arrested by police in Tehran

An Italian journalist reporting in Tehran was arrested by Iranian police, the Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday. Cecilia Sala was reporting in the Iranian capital when she was arrested on December 19, the ministry said, adding it was working with Iranian authorities “to clarify Sala’s legal situation and review the conditions of her detention.”
