Police are searching for a man who allegedly groped a five-year-old in a New York refugee shelter


The New York Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is searching for a man suspected of groping a 5-year-old girl near a home Government-funded accommodation for migrants in Midtown Manhattan.

Local New York news source 1010 WINS reported that the girl and her mother, who have not been identified by authorities, are residents of a New York City-funded migrant shelter at the old Roosevelt Hotel.

The representative told Fox News Digital that the incident occurred about a block from the Roosevelt Hotel at 5th Avenue and 46th Street on December 24 around 7 p.m.

The representative declined to comment on the suspect’s identity and did not say whether he was also staying at the Roosevelt Hotel migrant shelter. However, according to 1010 WINS, the suspect knows the girl and her mother.

The radio station reported that the girl was taken to Bellevue, a hospital in Manhattan, after the alleged groping.

The Roosevelt Hotel has been described by some as a “modern Ellis Island.” converted into a shelter and processing hub for migrants by the city of New York in May 2023 amid a wave of migrants pouring into the city. The hotel has become the epicenter of much of New York City’s migrant gang activity, which has reportedly led to a rise in violence and crime in the area.

New York police have not said whether the suspect they are looking for is a member of the notorious Venezuelan gang Aragua train or any other gang. Tren de Aragua had a strong presence near the hotel.

On December 5, a 17-year-old, Yeremi Colino, allegedly a member of the Tren de Aragua-affiliated gang Diablos de la 42 (Devils of 42nd Street), was arrested stabbed during a suspected confrontation with a rival gang.

Another migrant, 18-year-old Alan Magalles Bello, was also stabbed alongside Colino but survived.
