Postecoglou believes he retains the support of Spurs fans

Ange Postecoglou feels he still has the support of Tottenham fans despite the club sitting 11th in the Premier League.

Yesterday’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest means Spurs have lost four of their last five league games ahead of Sunday’s home game against Wolves.

Postecoglou was criticized for refusing to change his approach and vowed to stick to his uncompromising attacking philosophy despite it refusing to reap rewards.

Despite their difficulties, Spurs fans have not yet turned against the Australian and he is confident he will retain their support.

“They love their football club, they care about their football club and they want their football club to be successful. They make those feelings and emotions visible,” Postecoglou said.

“Since I’ve been here I’ve felt nothing but support. I still feel like there is support. I will continue to do what I believe is right to help this football club succeed. Nothing changes about that.

“The task is difficult at the moment because of our situation, but like most things that are quite difficult to manage, it is only temporary. We will get through it and emerge stronger from it.”

Postecoglou hasn’t been helped by the lengthy injury list, with Ben Davies now expected to be out for “a few weeks” and Radu Dragusin struggling to be fit for the weekend after limping off the pitch at the City Ground. First-choice central defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are also out.

The Wolves are pleased with the bounce of their new manager

It’s not ideal as a resurgent Wolves travel to north London after two wins under new boss Vitor Pereira, including last night’s 2-0 defeat by Manchester United at the Molineux.

Postecoglou said of his Portuguese counterpart: “Another good challenge for us. They have a new manager in Vitor (Pereira) who I know quite well because we met a few times in Asia. Obviously they got a great result last night. They definitely have some good players who can hurt you. We saw that last year.

“A really important game for us at home. Listen, we’re getting through this period as best we can, but we definitely need to go out there on Sunday, play our football and get a result to make sure we get some momentum going into the new year.”
