Syria’s new rulers arrest official responsible for death penalty in Saydnaya

The new Syrian government has arrested military justice officer Mohammed Kanjo Hassan, who handed down death sentences in Saydnaya prison under ousted President Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed on Thursday. His arrest followed deadly clashes in Tartus, an Assad stronghold, as gunmen tried to protect him.
