Waves of airstrikes hit cities in Yemen

Airstrikes reportedly hit the Yemeni capital of Sanaa and the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah.

The AFP news agency reports that Houthi TV described the attacks as “Israeli aggression.” Israel has not commented.

The extent of the attacks or any casualties are not clear from initial reports. In recent days, Israel has warned that it is preparing a major attack on Houthi rebel targets in Yemen after the group fired rockets at them.

Houthis have been attacking Israel with drones and missiles since the early months of the Gaza war, which began in October 2023. The war was triggered by an unprecedented attack on Israel by Hamas gunmen from Gaza, which was praised by the Houthis.

Since then, Israel has carried out intermittent attacks against Houthis in retaliation.

Earlier this week, Israel’s defense minister said it was preparing for a “hard strike” against the Houthis, warning that it would “decapitate” the group’s leadership.
