When does the transfer window open in January 2025?

The 2024/25 season hasn’t reached the halfway point yet, but there will be a number of clubs across Europe already dreaming of big winter spending.

Summer was a busy time all over the world transfer Billions were spent in the five best leagues in Europe alone. Premier League clubs have spent £2.1 billion alone, but it is extremely unlikely that much money will be spent at the start of the new year.

January transfer windows tend to be quieter, particularly for Europe’s top teams, but they offer struggling teams the opportunity to strengthen their squads or cover for injuries. There will be a multitude of teams already desperately waiting for the winter market to open.

Here you can find all the details about the January 2025 transfer window.

There is no specific date globally when the January transfer window opens. Different leagues open and close their shutters at different times.

The Premier League winter window opens on Wednesday January 1st. The market will also open on New Year’s Day in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga as well as the Saudi Pro League.

However, in La Liga and Serie A, clubs will have to wait until Thursday, January 2nd to transact their business.

The January transfer window is open for around a month and closes in early February in much of Europe.

The Premier League’s winter window closes at 11pm GMT on Monday, February 3, while the top leagues of Italy, France, Germany and Spain close their windows on the same day – although times may vary.

The Saudi Pro League window closes earlier than the major European leagues – much to the relief of many European clubs – and will close on Thursday, January 30th.

It promises to be an interesting winter window Liverpool Fans fearful of the future as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contracts all expire next summer. All three will be free to sign deals with clubs outside England in January if they leave Anfield at the end of the current season.

Elsewhere in the Premier Leaguethere is likely to be significant movement. The likes of Eberechi Eze, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anthony Gordon and Bryan Mbeumo could well attract interest from the division’s top teams, while Manchester City may be on the lookout for a replacement for Rodri given his absence for the rest of the season.

Victor Osimhen is another player to keep an eye on. The Napoli striker made a surprise loan move to Galatasaray at the end of the summer window, but could make a permanent move in the winter. His suitors include Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
