In Canada, the provincial government of Quebec just announced, without warning, a halt to permanent immigration. Two main programs affected are the Regular Skilled Worker Program (PRTQ) and the graduate component of the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ). The opposition denounces a “lack of planning,” while immigrant rights organizations accuse authorities of making thousands of skilled migrants pay the price for a lack of political foresight.
