Ryan Routh, the man accused of attempted murder then-presidential candidate Donald Trump Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced Wednesday that he faces a new charge of attempted aggravated murder in connection with a car crash that occurred as he attempted to flee authorities.
Moody said as Routh fled north on I-95, law enforcement was forced to close traffic in both directions to catch him and ensure the public’s safety. However, the lane closure led to a traffic accident in which a six-year-old girl who was traveling with her family was injured.
The New charges against Routh comes after what she described as a “lack of cooperation and support from federal agents” that has frustrated authorities in Florida.
“We immediately contacted our federal partners and started working with them,” she said. “When we began these approaches, we were immediately confronted with the unwillingness to grant us access to the crime scene, the unwillingness to provide the evidence collected, the unwillingness to attend witness interviews, and so on. “keep going.

Routh allegedly lurked in the bushes with a rifle on the edge of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach for more than 12 hours as Trump played golf on September 15. A Secret Service agent saw Routh point a rifle through a fence and shot him. Routh fled and was arrested the same day.
Routh has already done it pleaded not guilty on five counts, including the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate and the assault on a federal officer.

Routh last appeared for a federal court hearing on Dec. 11. His legal team is considering an insanity defense.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reiterated Moody’s comments and claimed that it was difficult to cooperate with federal officials on the matter.

“Federal authorities have blocked Florida’s investigation into the Trump assassination at every turn, and I appreciate Secretary Ashley Moody and her team for moving forward despite this resistance,” he said Posted on X “On January 20, the tide will turn and we fully expect the federal roadblocks to be removed. The would-be assassin must face the full force of justice, and the people deserve the truth about the defendant’s story, motivations and plans.”
Routh remains in federal custody. His trial is currently scheduled for February 10, 2025.
