Hundreds of people are feared dead in Mayotte after Cyclone Chido devastated the French Indian Ocean territory on Saturday.
Entire settlements were leveled as the cyclone brought winds of more than 225 km/h (140 mph), with people living in makeshift shelters hit particularly hard.
The footage shows police officers holding a door as the cyclone made landfall, leaving a hole in the roof of a building used as shelter.
A local resident said the wind took away everything as he stood in line at a supermarket to buy groceries.
It is feared the death toll could ultimately reach into the thousands once the damage is fully assessed and rescue workers are still working to reach some communities.
