Head coach Ruben Amorim has told Manchester United’s Wantaway striker Marcus Rashford that he has a future at the club.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says the club is “better” with Marcus Rashford and promises he is ready to “help” the striker, who is said to be ready for a new challenge.
The 27-year-old was left out of United’s squad because of the 2-1 defeat Victory at Manchester City on Sunday. The 20-year-old Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho was also not part of the squad for the Premier League duel. New coach Amorim later said that his decisions were all about demanding high standards from his players.
It has led to widespread speculation about his future Rashford discussed the possibility of leaving in an interview on Tuesday.
“Personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he told journalist Henry Winter on Tuesday. “There will be ‘no hard feelings’ when I leave.”
Amorim was diplomatic when asked on Wednesday whether he wanted to keep Rashford at the club. “Of course, because this type of club needs great talent and he is a great talent,” he told a press conference. “So he just has to perform at his best and that’s my focus. I just want to help Marcus.
“I want to get the best from Marcus Rashford… I want the best from every single one. “I just want to win and help the team get better.
“With Marcus Rashford we are better and it’s as simple as that. We will try different things to get Rashford to the best level he has shown me in the past.”
Rashford is under contract until 2028. He has been with the club since the age of seven and is a graduate of United’s famous academy, which has produced many of the greatest players such as Bobby Charlton, George Best, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham. During this time he scored 135 goals in 426 appearances and won the Europa League, two FA Cups and two League Cups.
But he has struggled for form since signing his new contract in 2023 – scoring just eight goals last season and losing his place in the England national team, for whom he won 60 caps.
He has scored three goals in six games since Amorim’s appointment in November, but was substituted after 56 minutes in his last appearance against Viktoria Plzen last week and then left out of the squad against City.
