Author who spoke to Luigi Mangione months before murder reveals Luigi’s ‘frustrations’
Author Gurwinder Bhogal revealed in an interview on CNN that he spoke with Luigi Mangione for two hours months before the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and said Mangione had alluded to frustrations with the U.S. health care system.
CNN’s Erin Burnett asked Bhogal about a video call he had with Mangione in May. Burnett said the timing was important because it was just before Mangione “went off the grid” in July.
Mangione was arrested in connection with the killing of Thompson at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. Thompson was shot in front of a hotel in Manhattan.
“I mean, there are a few things that make a little more sense now. But I can’t say I really predicted his behavior based on that video call. Um, you know, “He pointed to his frustration with the U.S. health care system. There was a brief exchange where he compared that the US healthcare system is really expensive,” Bhogal said.
WHO IS LUIGI MANGIONE, SUSPECTED IN THE MURDER OF UNITEDHEALTHCARE CEO?
“I told him about the NHS because we have a free healthcare system here in the UK. And he seemed to somehow idolize the UK healthcare system. And I told him that it wasn’t entirely easy, because although it was great, I’m a big fan of universal healthcare because in the UK we have big waiting lists, so there’s a bit of a trade-off. The system was better than the US one , and he agreed to it,” Bhogal added.
Bhogal also discussed some of the other things he remembered about Mangione from their conversation.
“He was very concerned about things like online porn, as if he believed that a lot of men wouldn’t go out and meet women because they were addicted to porn. He was really worried about video games. He believed that people weren’t achieving success.” “They weren’t accomplishing anything in the real world because they got dopamine hits, so to speak, from video games,” Bhogal said.

Bhogal said Mangione was concerned about the impact social media was having on people.
“And he feared that would happen to him too. And one of the topics of conversation, I mean, was that he wanted advice from me on how he could kind of regain some agency,” he said.

Several on the The left celebrated Thompson’s death and have praised Mangione as a hero.
Former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz told Piers Morgan how she felt in an interview “Joy” in response until Thompson’s death. Later in the conversation, she backtracked but said she felt no sympathy for his murder.
