A hiker was stung more than 100 times by bees near one Mountain peaks in Arizona Fire officials said he was flown to safety in critical condition after he was unable to descend the trail on his own.
The swarm attack occurred near the summit of Lookout Mountain Preserve North Phoenix The Phoenix Fire Department said Saturday morning.
The man, whose identity was not immediately publicly released, reported “over 100 stings” from bees, firefighters said.
The massive number of stitches resulted in the man “being unable to continue his descent,” the department said.

Rescue teams from Phoenix and Glendale launched an operation to lift the hiker from the mountain by helicopter.
The hiker was taken to an ambulance waiting at the trailhead and taken to a hospital in critical condition. No further details about the man’s injuries or his current condition were immediately released.

Firefighters have issued a bee safety warning as warmer weather brings out bees.
“Avoid nuisance beehives, avoid scented products when outdoors, wear light-colored clothing, and if you encounter a swarm, run away quickly and protect your head and face,” firefighters said.

Dr. Gary Kirkilas, a pediatrician at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, said AZ family that in most non-allergy cases it takes more than 500 or even 1,000 bee stings before it becomes fatal.
“These are mainly people who don’t do that have an allergic reaction“For people who have an allergic reaction, it may just be a few bites that send them over the edge.”
