In retaliation for the killing of two of its soldiers and an interpreter last year, US forces have carried out a series of strikes against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in Syria.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement on Saturday that it struck more than 30 ISIL targets in Syria between February 3 and February 12, hitting the armed group’s infrastructure and weapons caches with “precision munitions.”

CENTCOM said it carried out the recent attacks to “maintain unrelenting military pressure on remnants of the terrorist network.”

Operation Hawkeye, launched after the killings, has killed and captured more than 50 militants and hit about 100 ISIL infrastructure targets in the past two months, CENTCOM said.
The US military on Friday the transfer is completed of thousands of ISIL prisoners from Syria to Iraq, where they are expected to face trial.
The prisoners were sent to Iraq at Baghdad’s request, which was welcomed by the U.S.-led coalition that had fought the armed group for years.
In other developments, Syria’s Defense Ministry confirmed that government forces have taken control of the country Al-Tanf military base in the east of the country, which was dominated by US troops in the fight against IS for years.
The US-led coalition worked alongside the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the battle that led to the territorial defeat of IS in Syria in 2019.
However, Washington has now moved closer to the new Syrian authorities and recently declared that the purpose of its alliance with the SDF has largely been achieved.
The US withdrawal from al-Tanf comes as Damascus seeks to expand its control across Syria.
