Phones have come a long way. They have actually come this fartalkThe reason for this is not because your phone is by your side 24/7. Could it ever be the case again that we no longer have a camera to hand? We don’t believe that. That’s why when someone tells you that you can log your food on MyFitnessPal just by holding your phone’s camera over it, you should believe them.

Chances are, you use your smartphone multiple times a day to log meals in the MyFitnessPal app. In fact, our data shows that users log more than 6,000 meals per minute! So you probably log in without thinking much about it. Simply enter your food and select a match, or tap your favorite food and move on with your day – as if it were second nature. But we’re here to introduce you to an easier way – like scanning your groceries more easily.

As you type “blueberries,” it probably occurred to you that it would be great if you could simply take a photo of your blueberries to keep track of this antioxidant-rich fruit. Well, at MyFitnessPal we’ve made it even better. You don’t have to take a photo and wait for it to be processed and then log your food. Instead, you simply hover your camera over the food so the app recognizes it immediately and you can check and log it in a snap.

BENEFITS OF MEAL SCAN

At MyFitnesspal we are always looking for innovative ways to improve your life – and your ability to log easily and accurately; This is where Meal Scan comes into play.

“We know that there’s no magic fairy dust in the app when people jump on the MFP that suddenly makes you achieve your goals. You still have to do the work,” says Michael La Guardia, senior vice president of product at MyFitnessPal. “That’s why we’re trying to make logging as effortless as possible. We want to help more people pay attention to their diet and successfully change their habits.”

This new feature is powered by Passio, which offers patented scanning technology for real-time recognition of food and nutritional information. This new feature will shave minutes off your logging time and ultimately provide the benefit of learning more about your diet MacrosDiet, habits, etc., more seamless than ever before. Even better, it provides a verified food result, so not only is it quick and convenient; it is also accurate.

  • Find the right foods faster
No more typing to search for each individual food item. Meal Scan uses a visual food recognition system to provide reliable results in seconds.
  • Track foods more consistently
Meal Scan is so simple you’ll want to use it every day. That’s a good thing, because tracking your diet is the best way to achieve your goals.

HOW TO USE MEAL SCAN

All MyFitnessPal Premium Users whose language setting is set to English have access to this feature. You simply open the MyFitnessPal app on your phone, go to the logging screen (or Click here!), and tap Scan a Meal.

Point your phone’s camera, zoom in on the food, and hover over your food for a few seconds – no need to take a photo. Note that although you grant MFP access to your camera, the Meal Scan feature does not save or upload data from your phone’s camera.

Then the library fills out verified suggestions, and you take them from there, adding them to your diary immediately.

And if you want to log multiple foods, move the camera over the dishes to capture the entire spread. Believe us, your fingers will thank you.

BEST MATCH ACCURACY

While accuracy improves with more frequent use, the feature can already successfully identify thousands of foods. If the correct food is not found, a list of suggestions will appear for you to approve.

It’s about using technology to remove obstacles that stand in the way of success.

“Logging is at the heart of our work, so we will always look for ways to improve it,” says La Guardia.
