Peru fires president accused of failing to curb crime

Peruvian lawmakers ousted President Dina Boluarte shortly after midnight on Friday, ending a turbulent term marked by protests, corruption investigations and rising crime. After the vote, 38-year-old parliament leader Jose Jeri took over as interim president and vowed to lead until elections in April 2026.
