The US office for special consultants (OSC) examines the former special consultant Jack Smith, the OSC has confirmed FOX News.

Smith was acted in 2022 by the then General Management General Merrick Garland as a special consultant in relation to two probes in connection with the then president Donald Trump.

While the specific scope of the investigation is not clear, the OSC can investigate whether Smith may be violated against the HATCH ACT, the government employee prevents from participating in political activities. It is not a criminal investigation.

The OSC is not the same as a special consultant, who was appointed by a Attorney General, such as Smith, but “an independent investigative and public prosecutor’s office for the federal and public prosecutor,” according to his website.

“The statutory authority of OSC comes from four federal laws: the law on public service, the Whistleblower Protection Act, the HATCH ACT and the law on uniformed services Employment & Reaponment Rights Rights (Userra),” says the website.
