The Idaho police say 2 were killed after firefighters were attacked by the active shooter


A shooter attacked firefighters who reacted to a flame in a mountain community in Idaho on Sunday. He killed at least two people and set shots over several hours in an attack that the governor as a “hideous” attack by “hideous” attacks.

The Kootai County’s sheriff office said the crews had reacted to a fire at around 1:30 p.m. local time, and shots were reported about half an hour later.

Sheriff Bob Norris said reporters that officials did not know whether someone else was shot.

“We don’t know how many suspects are up there and we don’t know how many victims there are,” said Norris. “We actively take fire scorers while we speak.”

People still come off the mountain, said the sheriff, so it would be “safe to assume” that others are still up there.

Idaho governor Brad Little said “Several” firefighters were attacked.

“This is a hideous direct attack on our brave firefighters,” said Little on the Social Media platform X. “I ask all Idahoans to pray for you and your families while we are waiting to learn more.”

The Sheriff’s office in the neighboring Soshone County said on Facebook that the authorities “have to do with an active protective situation in which the shooter is still at large”.

In a warning from the Kootai County Emergency Management Office, people were asked to avoid the area around the Canfield Mountain Trailhead and the Nettlleton Gulch Road, about 6.5 kilometers north of the city center of Coeur d’Aleene.

The fire is still active, said Norris.

“It will continue to burn,” he said. “At the moment no resources can be used.”

No additional details were given.

Coeur d’Alene is a city with 55,000 inhabitants near the border with the state of Washington. Canfield Mountain is a popular hiking and cycle area on the outskirts of the city of North -idaho, covered with trees and heavy brushes and crossed.
