The Magic Mouse hasn’t made any major changes to its design for a long time, aside from things like ditching the AA batteries and adding a USB-C port, but Apple is now reportedly planning a revamp. In the Turn on In the newsletter, Mark Gurman reports that Apple has started working on prototypes for a more modern version of the Magic Mouse, which was first released back in 2009.
While some users love the Magic Mouse for its gesture controls, other aspects such as the non-ergonomic design and the bottom charging port have been the subject of complaints for years. We don’t know exactly what the redesign will bring, but it would be great if these things were finally addressed. And it sounds like we do. According to Gurman, “Apple is aiming to create something that’s more relevant while also addressing long-standing complaints – yes, including the charging port issue.” However, it could be a while before we see the new Magic Mouse. Gurman cautions that it could take another year to 18 months to be ready for market.
The newsletter also gives us a bit more information about the rumored new AirTag, which Apple is said to be in the works to release next year. Building on his previous reports about a next-gen AirTag with better chip and more tamper-proof designGurman now reports that the new tracker will feature “a new ultrawide band chip on par with the one introduced in the iPhone 15,” which he says could triple its detectable range with precision finding.
