Khouribga: An ambitious project for the cactus sector

A rehabilitation project by the cactus sector was launched in the province of Maadna, Khouribga. This project, which includes the planting of 720 hectares of cactus resistant to chickenille, is part of the national strategy “Generation Green 2020-2030”, which aims to revive a decisive agricultural sector and to support farmers affected by this parasite.

With a financing of 7.27 million DH, the program will extend in four municipalities: Maadna, Barksa, Oulad Aissa and Oulad Azzouz. It will focus on preparing the soils and the improvement of production quality. Around 32,000 working days should be created and farmers should be training to promote and market their products.

The modern infrastructure is also developed to ensure regular irrigation and good maintenance of plantations, which integrates the cactus as a lever for sustainable development.
