Rabat – A total of 19 people lost their lives and 3,002 more were injured in 2,169 traffic accidents in urban areas in Morocco in the week of March 24th to 30th.
During this time, due to the significant increase in traffic, Eid al fitr Vacation, so many people traveled to visit and celebrate family.
An explanation of the National Security General Directorate (DGSN) showed that 105 had suffered serious injuries among the wounded.
According to the DGSN, the main causes for these accidents belonged to the fact that drivers who were not careful were not attentive, the right to not draw excessive speed, pedestrians, not to keep a secure distance between vehicles, to lose control of vehicles and illegal changes to the lane.
Other reasons were, not to stand on stop signs, to drive on the wrong side of the street, to run red lights and dangerous maneuvers.
With regard to the law enforcement authorities, the authorities recorded 45,160 violations. They created 8,706 official reports sent to the public prosecutor and collected 36,454 fines on site. The total amount of the collected fines reached MAD 7,902,150.
The explanation also found that 4,998 vehicles were confiscated, 8,706 documents were confiscated and 432 vehicles were taken from the road.
DGSN concluded that the authorities continue the effort to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents by strict campaigns for law enforcement and sensitization campaigns.
