AI-powered summaries also come to the App Store

There is almost Two million apps in the iOS App StoreAnd many of them are not worth their time. That is why many of us turn to reviews when you consider a new app: you want to see how the experiences of other users were with the app – whether you loved, liked or loathed it.

Personally, the current review system works perfectly for me. I scan some reviews and generally get a feeling for whether the app is right for me. If I feel particularly analytically, I will even adapt the filters to see which reviews are most critical (therefore it’s not just a pile of fluff) or those who can recently be seen to see which customers have thought of the latest version of the app.

But it is 2025, which means one thing: ai. We cannot live any further in the past. We have to accept the future of artificial intelligence, we say the technology companies. Why can 30 seconds scan if the AI can reduce this work to 20 seconds? Maybe even 15?

Apple Ai App Store Review summaries

With iOS 18.4Apple is currently in Beta Testing of AI-generated summaries for reviews in the App Store. According to AppleThese summaries come from “highlights and key information” from reviews for apps and games and are updated at least once a week if the app or game has enough reviews to support this. These summaries are displayed directly under the evaluation for the app or the game under the heading “Review Summary”.

According to Apple, the review summaries are currently only available in English for a “limited number of apps and games” in the USA. The company plans to expand the function over the course of the year to more countries and languages.

Here is the thing with such features: they are largely insignificant. If you love her, great! You can take a look at the summary of the AI-generated selection and decide for yourself whether you would like to read the reviews. If you don’t like you, great! Scroll past the reviews directly.

This latter approach is probably the one I would take. On the one hand, I don’t trust the AI to do the core rightEven if the situation is relatively low.
