Doha – The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) described Morocco in its 2025 competition program as a priority region, which is € 85 million.
The initiative, announced The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs focuses on gender equality, combating gender-specific violence and promoting sustainable tourism in important Moroccan regions such as Marrakech, Greater Casablanca and the coastal provinces of Souss-Massa.
According to the census of the Spanish Ministry of Finance, the Interior Ministry in Morocco is the best beneficiary among foreign companies after receiving around 30 million euros by September 2023.
The Spanish government has already assigned around 250 foreign organizations and companies, mainly in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, around 300 million euros.
This latest name follows a number of essential Spanish investments in Morocco. Spain in January assigned € 2.5 million for border monitoring equipment, including 183 motorcycles worth € 660,000 and 33 vehicles of € 1.9 million.
This financing, which was channeled by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Guidelines (FIIAPP), was part of a wider support package of 120 million euros, which was implemented during the government of Pedro Sánchez.
Spain in the same month approved 2.6 million euros in emergency funds to renovate the historic Spanish hospital in Tangier, which serves as a nursing home for Spanish citizens and as a day healthcare center.
Additional recent allocations contain € 4,12 million for 20 video surveillance systems in December 2024, which are to be delivered to Morocco to improve the police capabilities and the collaboration in combating terrorism, human trafficking and organized crimes.
The contract was assigned to the security company Etel 88 SA based in Madrid, with each system with € 206,000 worth € 206,000.
Since 2019 Spain has led tens of million euros to Rabat for migration control efforts.
This bilateral cooperation was further supported by the European Union, which has contributed to over € 360 million since 2013, including 234 million euros from the EU Emergency Faith Fund for Africa.
