If You read the “invincible” comics and know the endgameThen you probably saw season 3 with fear. Not because the season is bad, far from it. No, because they knew that the end would be a bloodbath and that a big character would not find it out.
The penultimate episode of season 3 – “What did I do?” – “Invincible War” adapts. Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) exposes his latest revenge scheme against Invincible/Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) by bringing binding groups from various realities. In order to go home, the uniapements of Mark’s earth have to destroy “, our” earth.
One of the un -population groups and a particularly sadistic attack on the teen team base, overwhelming robot, monster girl and bulletproof. So Rex Splod (Jason Mantzoukas) stays behind to fight him and let the others escape. If it looks for Rex as if it were over, he plunges his hand through an open wound, reaches for his own skeleton and detonates it, takes out himself and the alternative invincible in the explosion.
Rex was compared to Gambit from “X-Men” because they are both high-spirited men of women who have the ability to bring things to the boom. (Admittedly, Rex can create luminous/exploding poles, while gambit sticks to playing cards.) Comparisons are now undoubtedly made Gambits heartbreaking victims in “X-Men ’97”. Like Remy Lebeau, Rex Splode is a hero that deserves to be reminded.
Rip Rex Splode, a true invincible hero
Both in the “invincible” comics and in the TV show, Rex is not so likeable at first. He is cocky, abrasive and dates atom Eva (Gillian Jacobs, one of the many celebrities of the show). The show has redeemed Rex even more than the comic. Part of it goes back to Mantzoukas’ funny and entertaining performance. It goes a fine border between disgusting, sometimes pathetic and ultimately more lovable. The show has also given Rex more time in the spotlight, which means that its absence will feel even more obvious and painful in future “invincible” seasons.
Rex became humble in the second season when he led some of the Guardians of the Globe to a mission that had gone terribly wrong. He and his teammates almost died what Rex gave the wake -up call he needed. He was still a Loudmouth, but one who took care of his friends.
Season 3 has paired Rex with shrinking Rae (Gray Delisle), who has doubts about the entire superhero. A normal life sounds good for Rae, but as much as he likes it, Rex ‘entire identity Is be a superhero; After all, his Nom de Guerre is his literal, legal name. When I saw Rex and Rae’s scenes together, I hoped that the show stayed with my hand and that Rex lived this time. Unfortunately it shouldn’t be.
Rex Splode could not give up being a hero, so of course he died as one.
