The chief diplomat of the EU, Kaja Kallas, said reporters on Monday that she hoped that Friedrich Merz could quickly form a government of the CDU “because we really have to continue with decisions at European level, which requires German participation”.
The President of the European Council, António Costa, said that he “handed my congratulations on his victory to the German elections to Merz”.
Costa, who represents the 27 national leaders of the Bloc, added that he “looks forward to work closely with him to make Europe more successful, more successful and autonomous”.
