Martin Bakole will be rewarded in New York City in May with a “big” heavyweight in New York City after defeating Joseph Parker against Joseph Parker on Saturday.
Bakole flew to Riad two days to replace the IBF champion Daniel Dubois after the Brit was sick before its title defense.
The Congolese fighter suffered a brutal knockout defeat in the second round against Parker, but his promoter Ben Shalom believes that he doesn’t have to wait long for the opportunity to get his career back into the route.
Shalom told Sky Sports News: “Martin wanted to take a great opportunity to save the show. It was always a massive risk, and I don’t know any other fighter on the planet who would have done it.
“But he wanted the fight for the assurance that he was fighting in a big fight in May.
“We still believe that he is the most dangerous heavyweight in the world and he will show this with a training camp for his next fight.”
Before Bacols agreed to take over against Parker, Bacols had expected to compete against the colleague against the colleague against the title of Dubois in an IBF eliminator.
It remains unclear how the IBF Bakole’s decision will see to face Parker instead of waiting for the eliminator against Ajagba.
Before his defeat against Parker, Bakole (21-2) had built a reputation as one of the most dangerous and avoided fighters in the heavyweight division.
After a defeat against Michael Hunter in 2018, he had achieved a series of 10 consecutive victories, the last of which was an impressive victory in August 2024 against the American proportion of Jared Anderson.
