Oscar de la Hoya, the promoter of Golden Boy, had a little subtle on Saturday evening in Keyshawn Davis when his fighter could be eliminated Oscar Duarte (29-2-1, 23 Kos) Miguel Madueno (31-4, 28 Kos) while Keyshawn couldn’t. It is not the case that the top rank that was physically promoted could not switch off Madueno.
De la Hoya did not get out directly and said it, but what he interprets is a better fighter than Keyshawn. He stopped saying, but he obviously said when he pointed out that Duarte did better than Keyshawn. He’s right. Duarte achieved much better against Maudeno than Davis.
Fear or strategy?
The power was there for this fight, but the courage was not. After Keyshawn received a foretaste of the power of the Mexican fighter, he was afraid of being hit. Instead of trying after a knockout, he converted the fight into a WWE match filled with wrestling tactics. The referee allowed Keyshawn to use the tactic without disqualifying it. Last Friday, Keyshawn still used the same tactic.
Davis recorded the WBO Lightweight title last Friday evening and steamed a champion Denys Berinchyk in four rounds in Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. Last year, on July 6th, Keyshawn took the distance of ten laps and defeated Madueno with a unanimous decision.
Keyshawn looked as if he was afraid to fight Madueno aggressively as if he had done it against Berinchyk because he could beat, and he was hit hard in the early rounds when he was buttoned. Davis seemed to give up the idea after the third round when he ate some big blows from Madueno.
“Keyshawn Davis could not switch off Madueño. That tells you a lot about Oscar Duarte and about Keyshawn because he just won the world championship title last night, ”said Oscar de la Hoya to Dazn after Oscar Duarte’s seventh round Knockout victory against Miguel Madueno last Saturday evening.
