Rabat – Amina Bouayach, President of the Moroccan Human Rights Council (CNDH), discussed the ongoing judicial reforms in Morocco and the challenges in connection with the right to defense and the protection of the rights during an international conference on FEZ on 14 and 15.
The event was organized by the FES Bar Association. It brought lawyers, experts and activists together to examine critical questions in the judicial system.
In their comments at the event, Bouayach said that it is important that human rights are translated into practical guidelines. She emphasized that the right to defense and the guarantee of a fair procedure should not only be anchored in legal texts, but should also be practiced every day from dishes, interrogation and the actions of lawyers.
The Cndh The President outlined several important challenges that have come to light for court observations and the complaints received by the Council. This includes the guarantee of the right to defense and equality before the law for all legal disputes, the provision of access to legal advisor and the respect of the principle of controversial procedure in all legal procedures.
She also mentioned the need for timely cases, especially for endangered groups and better integration of international human rights standards in national judicial practices.
In addition, Bouayach pointed to topics such as delays caused by procedural efficiency, especially in the notification process and uncertainties in the legal interpretation based on legislation.
In these questions, she said that it was important to improve access to justice for marginalized groups, to improve legal information and to combat discrepancies in legal practices in the regions.
The CNDH manager, who asked for her after a stronger application of international human rights principles before national courts, found that her implementation remains weak despite the ratification of the Morocco.
Most recently, Amina Bouayach noticed that Cndh has actively participated in discussions about legislative reforms, including those who refer to civil and criminal proceedings, and will continue to give recommendations to ensure the protection of rights and justice.
“The respect of human rights, prestigious guests, is also measured by the effectiveness of judicial proceedings to ensure justice for the victims. It is not limited to prevent violations and punish them, but about strengthening a culture of human rights, ”she concluded.
