In 2024 France recorded an alarming increase in drug trade, with record numbers for drug attacks and a tragic number of 110 deaths in connection with violence between criminal groups. The state services have intercepted 53.5 tons of cocaine, an increase of 130% compared to 2023, which illustrates the increase in traffic. The interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, underlined the seriousness of the situation by starting a sensitization campaign against the consumption of drugs.
The seizures of synthetic drugs also exploded with more than 9 million ecstasy and MDMA tablets, an increase of 123% compared to 2023. On the other hand, cannabis fits decreased by 19%, a total of 101 tons, and a ton of heroine was intercepted this year . These massive seizures testify to intensify trade networks that destabilize the country.
Despite the decline in violence in connection with drug trafficking, in which 110 deaths remained around 139 in the previous year in 2024, the authorities are still concerned about the extent of the phenomenon. The decline in murders is partly explained at the end of the rivalries between criminal groups in Marseille, but violence remains high in southern France. A total of 367 assassinations or attempted assassinations were associated with drug trafficking, a number that is still concerned.
The authorities also reported an increase in the arrest in connection with drug trafficking, with more than 51,700 people against drug trafficking and 288,000 for consumption. In this context, the government has promoted legislation to fight these phenomena more effectively and to support a new law against anti -drug to strengthen the investigation and create an organized national prosecutor.
