According to Ally McCoist, Steven Gerrard has to carefully consider his next management step, but believes that a return to Rangers is a clear possibility.
Gerrard left the Saudi Arabian side Al -ettifaq last week after a disappointing 18-month spell that followed from an overwhelming time in the Aston Villa.
However, the 44-year-old is still highly regarded in Scotland after having led Rangers to her first Scottish Premiership title for a decade in 2021 after going through undefeated throughout the season.
And the ex-rangers legend McCoist believes that a return to Ibrox could be on the cards.
He said Talk sport bet: “It would not surprise me if Steven Gerrard returned to Ibrox.
“He obviously appreciated the supporters very highly from the supporters due to the league title he gained, and his next job will be of crucial importance for him.
“Things did not go according to the plan for him after leaving Rangers. A bit like Frank Lampard to Coventry – his next appointment was really important for him too, so we will see what Steven decided with his career. “

Rangers had a mixed season. They are 13 points behind Celtic in the title race, but automatically qualified for the KO round in the Europa League.
Head coach Philippe Clement remains a split figure of supporting the club, as McCoist recognized.
“I think at that moment the majority of Rangers fans accepted that Philippe Clement received the support of the board,” added the former Scotland striker.
“In fairness for him there was a steady improvement in performance and results – you have really completed yourself in the TOP -EACHT THE table of the Europa League, especially in view of the strength of some of the teams you played.
“Nevertheless, some of the performances outside of home were completely unacceptable. They were really poor in some games. “
