The President of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH), Amina Bouayach, pleaded on Friday in Rabat for increased engagement for the protection of the rights of migrants in Africa. During a session of the working group on the migration of the network of the National African Human Rights Institutions (Rinadh), she was expressed, where she underlined the urgency of a coordinated campaign in the face of increasing challenges.
Ms. Bouayach emphasized the key role of national human rights institutions (IndH) in the documentation and denunciation of violations as well as in the development of adapted guidelines. She remembered that more than 21 million Africans live on the continent in another country and that North Africa has become a hub for migration, with many dramas in the Mediterranean.
The CNDH also carried out several initiatives, in particular a partnership with the International Organization for Migration (OIM), to prevent disappearance in a migration context. A roadmap in cooperation was presented to the United Nations Committee, and discussions are underway to strengthen cooperation within the African network.
This meeting brought together several African human rights officers from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The participants discussed the normative and legal changes in migration and discussed the contributions of the working group on the next COP29 to integrate the migration dimension into climate discussions.
