According to the latest statistics from the National Fisheries Office (ONP), landings of coastal and artisanal fishery products in the port of Essaouira recorded a notable increase of 25% in 2024, reaching 25,009 tons compared to 20,046 tons in 2023. This positive dynamic continues a significant increase in the market value of the landed products, which increased by 36% to 290,473 million dirhams rose.
Pelagic fish dominate this growth with a 27% increase in catches to a total of 19,924 tons or a value of 94.160 million dirhams (+39%). Cephalopods and crustaceans also recorded increases of 11% and 94%, respectively, showing favorable dynamics for the local economy. On the other hand, catches of white fish recorded a slight decrease of 5% and amounted to 1,052 tonnes.
At the national level, landings of coastal and artisanal fishery products reached 1,336,058 tonnes in 2024, a slight decrease of 1% compared to 2023. However, the value of marketed catches increased by 6% to over 10.54 billion dirhams, reflecting better valuation of fishery products.
These achievements underline the strategic role of the Port of Essaouira in the fisheries sector and the impact of efforts to strengthen the sector. The modernization of the infrastructure and the support of skilled workers enable productivity to be optimized and support the economic development of the region.
