Morocco foils attempt to smuggle 9.8 tons of Chira and arrests 6 suspects

Marrakech – Members of the Marrakesh Police Prefecture, in coordination with their counterparts in Safi, foiled an attempt to transport 9.8 tons of cannabis resin (known locally as chira) internationally on Tuesday, according to a security source.

This operation took place in the “Addher” area in the rural municipality of Kouzemt – Imintanoute, based on accurate information from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

According to the same source, six people, including a civil servant and a former elected representative, were arrested for alleged links to a criminal network involved in the international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

The suspects, aged between 29 and 59, were arrested while planning an international drug trafficking operation by sea. The inspection led to the seizure of 9.8 tons of Chira from several locations as well as a commercial vehicle with a false license plate. an inflatable boat and a ship’s engine.

The suspects were taken into custody under the supervision of the responsible public prosecutor’s office for further investigations in order to clarify the full extent of the case and identify possible accomplices.

This raid is part of the joint efforts of the national security services and the DGST to effectively combat transnational criminal networks, particularly those involved in international trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances.
