Manchester City sign Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £29.6m

Manchester City have strengthened their defense by signing 19-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.

The club have agreed a deal worth £29.6 million for the promising young talent, who has signed a four-and-a-half year deal.

Reis, a right-footed central defender, has played 22 games for Palmeiras and represented Brazil in the under-17 team.

“This is a dream come true because even as a small child I always dreamed of getting a chance like this and playing for a club as big as City,” said Reis.

“The size of Manchester City, its history and its structure. When the door knocked and it was Manchester City, I knew I had nowhere else to go.”

“I am a very keen athlete with a great will to win.

“So you can be sure that I will go and give everything on the pitch.

“I have a lot of will and determination and am a player who loves challenges, good headers and passes.

“City likes to play with a lot of ball possession, which is what I like to play too.

“City showed that trust in me when they decided to sign me and that gives me a lot of confidence.”

City’s Premier League title defense has been derailed this season by injury problems, particularly in defence.

The club has already signed Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov this window and is reportedly eyeing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush before the transfer window closes.
