Why fans are bashing Snoop Dogg and Soulja Boy
The backlash against Snoop Dogg and Soulja Boy over their appearance at Trump’s celebration stems from their past comments about the new president.
Both rappers have been critical of Trump in the past, with Snoop Dogg frequently criticizing the president-elect, including in September 2020 when he called him a “racist” for disrespecting people of color.
Meanwhile, in 2019, Soulja Boy criticized Kanye West for his support of Trump, claiming, “That’s not right.”
While the hip-hop stars may have their reasons for appearing at Trump’s inaugural ball, they would have to do a lot more to win over their critics.
Nelly defends his performance at the presidential inauguration
However, he defended his decision during an appearance on “Willie D Live.” Nelly expressed her disappointment that people were critical despite his previous actions.
He said, “I thought you were running for me because I was running for my city. I didn’t know that I had to agree with your political decisions. I thought it’s the things you do (that count), not the things you do.” If you follow what I do, this shouldn’t be an argument. He (Trump) won.

Nelly also denied that he accepted Trump’s invitation for money reasons. He said, “I don’t do this for money. It doesn’t matter who is in office. In the same way, our brothers and sisters go to war to risk their lives for the incumbent.”
The “Ride Wit Me” rapper concluded, “So if they can put their lives on the line for whoever’s in office, I can fucking perform for whoever’s in office.”
