Tottenham manager Postecoglou has not lost his “faith or determination” despite fans’ anger over Everton’s defeat

Ange Postecoglou says his confidence that he can turn Tottenham’s season around has not wavered despite their sixth defeat in eight league games this afternoon.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 at Everton, with a late second-half comeback giving the score a measure of respectability after a largely uninspired performance at Goodison Park.

The relegation-threatened hosts were 3-0 up at half-time after efforts from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye were complemented by an Archie Gray own goal.

Spurs improved after the break but were unable to find an underfoot equalizer after goals from Dejan Kulusevski and substitute Richarlison.

The visiting fans expressed their anger at Postecoglou and the players after the final whistle, but the Australian insisted he would continue to work hard to find solutions.

Asked if his faith was starting to wane, he told Sky Sports: “No, that’s not the case. If you look at the situation we are in, it will resolve itself at some point. I certainly hope and believe that it will be so. We give ourselves the opportunity to achieve consistent performance and results.

“I definitely haven’t lost faith or determination to turn things around and the players showed in the second half that they hadn’t either.”

We had problems in the first half – Ange

The injury-plagued Spurs are in 15th place in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

Postecoglou added: “It is a difficult result. In the first half we struggled to really get into the game and that gave Everton momentum. We had a mountain to climb, but even though the players tried to win the game back, we just failed.

“We couldn’t really control the game. We struggled to get any traction with or without the ball and that allowed them to get through behind us. We had a few chances that we probably should have taken at the start, but in the end it wasn’t enough.

“We are pretty tense. We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. We didn’t have full control of our organization and Everton capitalized on that and paid the price. Radu (Dragusin) had to be relegated due to the deep cuts and restructuring.

“We had a fair share of play in the second half. We started strong and I thought Richarlison made a difference and showed presence and Mikey Moore gave us something on the left.”

Tottenham want to make moves in January

The transfer window is open and Spurs are working hard to strengthen their squad.

“There will be urgency, but I don’t have to say it, everyone can see that,” Postecoglou said. “I have no problems with the approach of the club, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players definitely need help and hopefully we can find a solution in the next 10 days. It’s really difficult, we’re not the only ones on the market. The club is trying very hard.”
