Gabriel Basso does his own stunts on The Night Agent
Gabriel Basso prefers to do his own stunts whenever possible.
“I think that can be kind of misinterpreted to say, ‘I’m doing it because I want to say I can do it,’ and that’s really not the point.” The night agent star, 30, said during an appearance on Tuesday, January 14 The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “For me, it’s about audience immersion.”
In the Netflix series, Basso plays the lead role of FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who works as a night action operator in the White House. He told Fallon, 50, as the audience watched The night agentHe wants them to feel that his performance is believable.
“I don’t want the audience to see the show right when I get hit or thrown from the hip or thrown onto my back, you know. I feel like it’s a lie,” the actor said. “I enjoy acting, I don’t like lying.”
For Basso, there is a “difference” when it comes to performing stunts “for audience immersion” and “believability.”
“They like Peter (and) I think it’s important to watch him take hits,” he explained. “And if that requires throwing me against a wall, then that’s fine. It’s not the end of the world.”
A stunt What Basso had on the table was skydiving — something he already does in his personal life.
“(Netflix) brought it up as an idea and then I was like, ‘Oh, I’m already a skydiver.’ “I will do it,” Basso said. “But then the insurance company called and said, ‘Yeah, stop it.'”
Fallon then showed a photo of Basso skydiving.
“I was at Skydive San Diego,” Basso explained of the photo of him in the air. “I had my A-Class recertified”
The late night host then realized he was holding Basso’s photo upside down. Basso joked that the photo of him in the sky “looked cooler from the other side” since his back appeared to be facing the ground.
“I like it. That’s hard to do,” Fallon teased before recreating the pose in his chair. “You really have to arch your back.”
Last month, Basso made an epic jump from Netflix’s blimp during the Christmas Day football game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texas. Basso parachuted out of the airship in Houston. After completing the stunt, he then unveiled the trailer for the second season The night agent dropped.
“It was cool to see Houston from an airship. Definitely a memory!” Basso said Tudum from Netflix in December 2024.
The night agent Season two premieres on Netflix on Thursday, January 23rd.
