Fight against tax evasion: 17.77 billion DH collected in 2024

The ministerial delegate in charge of the budget to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Fouzi Lekjaa, reviewed on Monday in Rabat the measures taken to combat tax evasion, such as the generalization of withholding tax and the strengthening of tax control mechanisms. These measures made it possible to collect DH17.77 billion in 2024, compared to DH14.06 billion in 2023, an increase of 26.4%, he stressed.

Lekjaâ also spoke about the result of the voluntary regulation of the tax situation, which reached 127 billion DH. He therefore stated that DH77 billion was declared through bank declarations, DH48 billion was declared through direct declarations to the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) and DH2 billion was declared for property and assets of the foreigner. The deputy minister also assured that citizens who have declared their income and deposited their money in their bank accounts “have the freedom to use it, whether for direct investment or the acquisition of real estate.” However, he reiterated “the commitment of the tax administration “to ensure absolute confidentiality and not to carry out subsequent tax audits in order to encourage taxpayers to declare their income spontaneously”.

The minister also stressed that the application of the 5 percent rate under the Finance Act will generate additional resources of around DH6 billion for the state, helping to strengthen the confidence of taxpayers and the tax administration.

This approach “aims to contribute to structuring the national economy, strengthening its development capacity in the face of increasing investments and reducing the budget deficit to 4% in 2024, with a downward trend towards 3% by 2026.” “Stabilizing public debt at 69, 5% of GDP,” he concluded.
