Goals and highlights with Man United, Tottenham and Newcastle among the third round winners
Five Premier League teams tried to avoid surprises as the third round of the 2024/25 FA Cup resumed with seven games on Sunday.
Fifth-tier side Tamworth were hoping for a big upset at home to Tottenham, while fourth-tier side Bromley, promoted last season, visited Newcastle.
Ipswich Town was home to Bristol Rovers and Stockport County visited Crystal Palace as two League One teams chased shocks and Southampton was home to Championship side Swansea City.
Arsenal also faced Manchester United in an all-Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium. Here’s what happened, including scorers and highlights.

Arsenal vs Man United: Penalties decide
Bruno Fernandes’ strike gave United the lead seven minutes after half-time, but the momentum seemed to work to Arsenal’s advantage after Diogo Dalot received a second yellow card for the visitors two minutes before Gabriel’s equaliser.
United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır then brilliantly saved Martin Odegaard’s penalty and repeated the trick against Kai Havertz in the shootout, while Ruben Amorim’s side progressed 5-3 in the shootout after a 1-1 draw.

Tamworth vs Tottenham: Spurs survive the scare
Tottenham were a strong side but had an unpleasant afternoon at the 4,000-capacity Lamb Ground in Tamworth, only taking the lead through Nathan Tshikuna’s battered 101st-minute own goal.
Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson also scored in extra time to give Ange Postecoglou’s side a flattering 3-0 win.

Newcastle vs Bromley: Magpies have work to do
Twelfth in League Two, Bromley got off to a spectacular start in front of more than 52,000 fans when Cameron Congreve won a header in the eighth minute and scored from the rebound.
Newcastle equalized eight minutes later with a superb strike from Lewis Miley, and William Osula also scored his first goal for the club in the 61st minute, sealing the 3-1 win after half-time substitute Anthony Gordon’s penalty.

Ipswich vs Bristol Rovers: Hosts step on the gas
Having been eliminated at home to Maidstone United last season, Ipswich were clearly keen to avoid another shock when Kalvin Phillips put the Tractor Boys ahead with a long-range shot after 18 minutes.
Six minutes later Jack Clarke scored to double the lead and eight minutes before half-time Jack Taylor scored the third and final goal of the game, although the lack of video assistant referee reviews until the fifth round potentially kept the midfielder from elimination has kept apart.

Crystal Palace vs Stockport: Eze goal wins
England striker Eberechi Eze’s fourth-minute strike was the only goal of the game, keeping Palace unbeaten in nine games outside the EFL Cup.
Play-off chasers Stockport are now winless in five games, although Isaac Olaofe was unlucky to have his second-half shot blocked by a brilliant save from Matt Turner.

Southampton vs. Swansea: Dibling in the double
Kamaldeen Sulemana’s deft first-time lob and Tyler Dibling’s throw-in gave Southampton a 2-0 lead at half-time and on their way to their first win in 12 games.

Taking advantage of the shaky defense, Dibling scored the final goal for the Premier League bottom club after the break, although Joe Allen fired a low shot against the post from the edge of the penalty area for the Swans, who lost their last game three away.
Hull v Doncaster: Rovers shock Tigers
Harry Clifton scored the winning spot-kick as fourth-tier Doncaster won a shootout 5-4 after a 1-1 draw at Championship side Hull.

Luke Molyneux’s confident finish gave Rovers the lead six minutes after the break, but Gustavo Puerta equalized ten minutes from the end of normal time after Mason Burstow’s shot hit the post.
