Manchester City beat Salford while Leeds narrowly avoid cup upset
Manchester City moved into the fourth round of the FA Cup after a comfortable 8-0 win over League Two Salford City at the Etihad.
Salford-born James McAtee scored his first senior hat-trick as the City side avoided a major cup upset with a ferocious performance in what will be a welcome confidence boost for Pep Guardiola and his players.
The excellent Jeremy Doku scored a brace while Jack Grealish, Nico O’Reilly and debutant Divin Mubama completed the defeat and continued the Premier League champions’ good start to 2025.

Elsewhere, Championship leaders Leeds United saw off League Two side Harrogate Town at Elland Road.
The game was goalless at half-time, but Largie Ramazani scored with a header just before the hour to secure Daniel Farke’s side’s place in the next round.
The pure championship battle between Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday came down to penalties after the two teams could not be separated for over 120 minutes.
Liam Kitching gave Frank Lampard’s team the lead after 26 minutes and held the lead deep into second-half stoppage time.
But Wednesday’s Anthony Musaba equalized in the 93rd minute to send the game into extra time.
Neither team could find a winner in the remaining half hour and so the tie was to be decided by a penalty shootout, which Coventry won 4-3.
