Chamelo launches Aura Rx, prescription smart glasses with instant electronic tint change
Chamelo made a name for itself with the intelligent Aura glasses, which can change the color of the sunglasses at the touch of a button. Now the company is launching the Aura Rx, the world’s first prescription smart glasses with instant electronic tint changing.
Building on the success of its flagship Aura sunglasses, launched in 2024, Aura Rx integrates prescription lenses with the company’s proprietary lens technologies: Prismatic and Eclipse. I tried it out this week at the Pepcom Digital Experience Party at CES 2025, the big tech trade show in Las Vegas.
Aura Rx introduces the world’s first prescription glasses with electronically color-changing and tint-adjusting lenses. Thanks to PrismaticTM or EclipseTM lens technology, users can easily switch between four colors or four different tint levels with just one touch. Made from premium materials and high refractive index prescription lenses, Aura Rx combines durability, precision optics and style in a sleek design, providing optimal protection and performance.
“Since we launched Chamelo last year, the most requested feature has been no additional technology or
styles, but simply the ability to add lenses to your Chamelos…especially our viral ones,
award-winning Aura frame,” Chamelo CEO Reid Covington said in a statement. “For people who
If you wear prescription glasses every day, that’s a given – why wouldn’t you want more functionality?

We want to benefit the world from our cutting-edge technology while meeting their prescription needs
We are excited to announce that we have finally developed an amazing Rx solution at this year’s consumer conference
Electronics trade fair.”
“What makes Aura Rx truly revolutionary is its patented lens architecture,” said Chase Larson, COO at
Chamelo, in a statement. “Our flexible liquid crystal films are protected on both sides by precision-engineered lenses, creating a long-lasting prescription solution that maintains near-perfect optical clarity.”
Cool lens technology meets premium prescription integration
With the new launch of Chamelo, users will get the opportunity for ultimate customization within the same
Product – color-changing or tint-adjusting lenses, both controllable at the touch of a finger. Perfect vision meets perfect control, with high-quality high-index lenses with a prescription range of +/- 100 to +/- 600. Advanced double-layer lens architecture and durable anti-scratch coating ensure crystal clear optics in any condition.
Aura Rx offers two different lens technologies. Prismatic Technology, a 2025 CES Innovation Award
honoree allows wearers to switch between four premium colors – cool clear, blue, purple and ruby red – with activation via touch control resulting in a color transformation in 0.1 seconds. For those seeking traditional sun protection with enhanced control, EclipseTM technology allows the user to switch between four different tint levels with a simple tap, ensuring perfect clarity at each level.
Unlike traditional photochromic lenses that can take minutes to adjust and may not darken while driving, Aura Rx gives the user instant control over the desired level of tint in any environment – whether behind the car
Bike, indoors or outdoors.
High-tech features in a portable, durable package
Aura Rx is designed for protection and performance. With an IPX4 rating, shockproof construction, scratch-resistant coating and 99.9% UV protection, users don’t have to worry about daily wear and tear. Additionally, users can typically get more than a week of use on a single charge, with fast charging to 80% in just 30 minutes. Optional lens enhancements – including polarization and blue light blocking – are coming soon, giving users even more customization options.
Aura Rx will be available for purchase in February, with the option to customize the glasses with black or white frames, Eclipse or Prismatic technology, and the prescription add-on starting at $385 on Chamelo’s website.
